Does Life Seem Like Too Much Work?
I had an email from a friend who had been reading my blogs. She said it all sounded like so much work! “What happened to just enjoying life?” she asked.
Almost simultaneously I read a quote by Abraham Hicks that said, “You can not have a happy ending to an unhappy journey”. It made me think about kicking off those stillettos, taking a breather, and finding some joy.
Women work hard. We care for our families and our companies to the point of exhaustion – often just hoping to get through the day. We are in danger of wishing our lives away.
If this sounds familiar, consider these two questions:
1) Do you suffer from hurry sickness? Women typically overbook themselves and rush from one commitment to another. Obviously, it’s important to learn to say “no” but more than that be present with each activity. Look for the pleasure in it instead of having regrets about the past or worries about the future. When I hurry too much I spend too much and eat too much. And I don’t truly enjoy any of it! By slowing down and living in the moment, an overcrowded schedule feels less oppressive and each individual commitment is more satisfying.
2) Do you say “yes” to life? How many of us don’t take the time for the things we’d like to do? We deny ourselves activities we enjoy, believing we don’t have time for them. It’s time to start making fun a priority. With every activity that you do stop and ask yourself, “does this give me energy or take it away?” Then put more of the things on the calendar that give you energy and get rid of as many of the rest as possible. If we spend our lives doing things we don’t like to do, what’s the point? All work can be fun, if we hum when we do it or partner it with laughter.
We’ll find happy trails by slowing down, living in the present moment, connecting with what energizes us, and committing to doing more of it. What will you do to enjoy life more?
