This Fall-Winter 2011 season for men is going to be an exploration of deconstruction, construction, elegance and texture. We can’t forget a healthy dose of whimsy to excite them.

Fashion and trends don’t make you stylish… your confidence does. The two are interdependent “Find Your Style, Find Your Confidence” that is my mission. Here are my top must haves for Fall-Winter 2011. My #5FAV4FWMEN will go wonderfully with what you may already have in your closet, easing the tension on your debit card.

Military Deconstruction~ Command your style
Military influences have never really truly disappeared out of style. It comes in waves. Looking a little different at each peak moment. We are not looking for fatigues or full “dress blues” but for the inspirational elements. Right off the rack or a heritage discovery at the Goodwill or estate shop. The trend is about integrating in with your existing looks.  Simply add a military technical belt, hat or Peacoat. I think we subconsciously do this to pay homage to the armed forces and the men and women who serve our countries.

Suited Elegance~ Explore your style
Now that the temperature is taking a plunge, suits are much more comfortable to wear. I personally love the one-button suite, but two is just dandy. The double breasted is making a resurgence of popularity as well. It is all up to you, no matter which you choose, make sure it is tailored to you. You can make your suit a little more easy by switching the trouser out for a selvage or rigid, plain pocket, deep-wash denim. Mimicking the sleekness of a flat front trouser, but obviously the comfort and ease of denim.

Texture Exploration~ Feel your style
The season brings on the need for layer of  lush, tactile, natural and man-made fibers. Dive in to velvets, cashmeres, cable knits and even leathers, supple or braided.  Don’t limit yourself to JUST sweaters and jackets. Velvet pants can be a little carnal. Or a winter scene knitted on a backpack or bag could bring out your quirkiness.

Rugged & Polished~ Boost your style
Ankle to knee, boots are a must. Not only are they perfect for a traipse through the snow and ice, but for a tall and confident look. I welcome the extra inch or two to my stature any day. Leathers polished and suede are a given. Have fun with Hunter rubber boots, they come in various colors and trims. Ted Baker’s English heritage inspired or even Aldo for a great buy for the season.

Fun & Unexpected~ Construct your style
This is the fun part. Take a piece from each of the above trends and create your own signature style. Assemble your look, then be courageous, add something extraordinary; cuff-links, hat or sunglasses, it does not matter. It is about your mood… your moment.

Robert, I love your explanations of the trends you see as imperative. They’re easy to understand and give you a great idea of how to use them. Your pictoral examples are also very helpful. I will be sharing this on twitter and with my clients. Thanks so much!
