The Apple-Shape Figure

The Apple-Shape Figure

Typically apples have:

  • A fuller face and neck
  • Broader shoulders
  • Fuller Breast
  • A fuller, undefined waist
  • Narrow hips
  • A flat rear end
  • Shapely legs

Objective: BALANCE

Balance is always the goal. Wardrobe selections that lengthen or elongate your torso are key. We want to give the appearance of slimmer shoulders and waist. We need to draw attention away from the midsection, and draw attention to your best attributes, making a more confident you.

Top it

  • Bra that offers good support (foundation garments are critical)
  • Wrapped and fitted tops with a V-neckline are ideal
  • Camis and tanks with a jacket and belt or blazer are super
  • Darker, solid hues = the appearance of a slimmer you

Shape it

  • Shorter (1”-5” above the knee) A-line skirts in bolder colors and simple pattern, in silks and textured chiffons
  • Flat front denim & trousers with a back pocket and flaps, adds curve
  • Boot cut and flared legs will give you a longer leaner look
  • Lighter, faded and distressed washes create shape also

Avoid it

  • Baggy or puffy tops; full sleeves
  • Shoulder pads (really, do I need to say why?)
  • Bold patterns in lighter colors above the waist
  • Bottoms that are to tight or skinny, this exaggerates your top more
  • Darker hues and tapered legs for denim and trousers, makes hips look narrow
