Typically hourglasses have:
- Full, shapely bust
- Distinctly defined waist
- Medium to broad hips, in proportion with shoulders
- Shapely legs

Balance is always your goal. Wardrobe choices should draw attention to your waist and accentuate those feminine curves without adding volume to your hips or shoulders.
Top it
- Bra that offers good support (foundation garments are critical)
- Tops with a V-shaped or scooped neckline that lengthen the body
- Halter tops that show off your shoulders are great too
- Most colors and small patterns are fantastic
- A well-cut jacket or blazer to show off your waist.
Shape it
- Stretch denim gives a smooth fit from waist to hip
- Denim and trousers that are slightly flared will balance your hips
- Mid to low-rise waistline will depend on your tummy
- Full-length or ¾-length skirts with a slit in the front bring promises of a longer and leaner look
Avoid it
- Baggy, frumpy or shapeless lines
- Large prints, checks and stripes, and ruffles or excessive embellishment around the bust may needlessly bulk you up
- Short skirts, will possibly chop your length
