The Pear-Shape Figure

The Pear-Shape Figure

Typically pears have:
  • Long slender neck
  • Slopping or narrow shoulders
  • Small to medium bust
  • Defined waist with curvy hips and backside
  • Full thighs & calves
Objective: BALANCE Balance is always the goal. Wardrobe choices should create the appearance of wider shoulders and bigger bust to look proportionate to your lower half. You want to draw attention up to your face and your bright, confident smile. Top it
  • Bra that offers good support (foundation garments are critical)
  • Blouses that are fitted or skimming
  • Necklines that are scooped, draped, V’d, rounded or squared
  • Texture, detail or prints in light or bright colors are optimal
Shape it
  • Wear pants that fit around your natural waist, not under it.
  • Flat front denim and trousers with a back pocket and flaps, adds curve
  • Straight leg denim, is slimming and classic
Avoid it
  • Body-hugging skirts
  • Super full skirts
  • Bias cut dresses will be too clinging
  • Bold patterns and light colors below the waist
  • Tapered denim or trousers, narrows the leg
  • Bottoms with a high waist
  • Pockets on the rear, add to much dimension
  • Jackets that finish at the widest part of the hip are a common mistake
  • Flashy belts draw unwanted attention to your hips and thighs
